The best tent footprints for 2026

A footprint is a groundsheet cut to sit under a tent, and the compatibility rule is counter-intuitive: it has to be slightly smaller than the tent floor. A footprint that sticks out past the flysheet collects rain and channels it under the tent, which is the opposite of the job. Model-specific footprints are cut to the maker's own plan and usually carry ring-and-pin or webbing loops that share the tent's peg points, so the fly and the footprint go down together; a universal sheet is cheaper and has to be folded under by hand.
