The best camp storage boxes for 2026

This is car-camping kit, and it is bought on dimensions rather than on litres. Two sets matter and they are rarely both published: the external footprint, which decides how many fit across a boot, and the internal dimensions, which decide whether a stove, a pot set and a folding basin actually go in. Where a maker publishes only a capacity in litres, treat it as an approximation of a shape you cannot see. The second question is stacking. A recessed lid that locates the box above it turns two boxes into a stable column; a flat lid does not, and a domed one is worse. Where a maker publishes a lid load rating, it tells you whether the lid is a seat or only a cover. Then the closure: over-centre latches hold under load where clip lids pop, and a gasket with a stated rating is the difference between dust-resistant and rain-resistant.
