The best dry bags for 2026

A dry bag is bought by stated volume in litres, and that number is reached only with the closure open. A roll-top seals when the fabric is folded over at least three times before the buckle clips, so a 10 litre bag carries roughly eight litres of kit and still shuts the way the maker intends. The second decision is the fabric. Denier describes the yarn weight, and the coating describes everything else: a light ripstop nylon with a polyurethane coating packs down small and scuffs, while a heavy PVC or TPU laminate shrugs off a canoe floor and weighs several times as much. Welded or taped seams beat stitched ones, because a needle hole is a hole. Where a maker publishes an IP rating, read which one — immersion and splash are different claims. Shape decides how it loads: a long narrow bag slides down the side of a rucksack, a squat one fills the base. A purge valve lets a bag of clothing compress instead of trapping air. We compare stated volume, fabric and denier, coating, seam construction, closure type, any stated water rating, weight, and whether a purge valve is fitted.

The ones worth packing

  1. Unigear PVC dry bag with shoulder strap and reinforced D-rings

Unigear 500D PVC dry bag, six sizes from 2 to 40 litres

One of only two bags here to publish a denier, and one that describes its buckle, its D-rings and its phone pocket without ever saying how the top itself is closed.

    Stated volume
Six sizes offered — 2, 5, 10, 20, 30 and 40 litres, stated, with the maker suggesting 2 to 10 litres for boating and fishing, 20 to 30 for cycling, camping and the beach, and 40 for longer trips
    Fabric
PVC — stated as scratch-resistant, tear-resistant and waterproof
    Denier
    500D — stated
    Coating
Not published on the listing — PVC is named as the material itself rather than as a coating over a woven base, and no chemistry is named on top of it
    Seam construction
    Not published on the listing
    Closure type
Not published on the listing — the maker describes an optimised buckle shape and material and says it outlasts ordinary buckles, and never says how the top is folded before the buckle clips
    Stated water rating
Not published on the listing — waterproof is used as a word, with no standard, no ingress rating and no water column figure behind it
    Weight
    Not published on the listing
    Purge valve
    Not published on the listing
    Amazon reference
B07FF15KHL (same reference on 5 Amazon marketplaces)
    EAN
    0705169076681
    • Publishes a denier, which only one other bag on this shelf does
    • Reinforced D-rings at both the top and the base, with the lower one described as taking the greater load
    • The closure is never named, so the roll count that makes a seal cannot be checked

Best for: A boat, a beach or a bike pannier where a stated fabric weight matters more than a stated seal.

  2. Set of eight VFANDV coloured dry bags in ascending sizes

VFANDV set of eight PU-coated polyester dry bags, 1.5 to 13 litres

A set of eight small bags, and the only one on this shelf to close with a hook-and-loop strip instead of a buckle — with a size list that the title and the bullets state differently.

    Stated volume
Eight bags. The title lists 1.5, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 5, 8, 10 and 13 litres; the bullets list 1.5, 2.5, 3, 3.5, 5, 8, 13 and 13 litres. The two lists are not the same and the maker does not reconcile them
    Fabric
    Polyester fibre — stated
    Denier
    Not published on the listing
    Coating
Polyurethane — stated, over the polyester
    Seam construction
Not published on the listing — the maker says the smooth surface stops seams letting water through, which describes the fabric rather than how the seams are joined
    Closure type
Rolled, then fastened with a hook-and-loop strip — stated; the maker describes rolling the top and pressing the strip closed, and gives no number of turns
    Stated water rating
Not published on the listing — waterproof and tear-resistant are used as words, with no standard and no figure
    Weight
Not published on the listing — described as very light and compact, foldable to a small size, with no figure
    Purge valve
    Not published on the listing
    Amazon reference
B0DZY1JTT7 (same reference on 5 Amazon marketplaces)
    EAN
    0735530899489
    • Eight bags in one purchase, which is the cheapest way on this shelf to sort a pack by size
    • Names the coating as polyurethane rather than leaving the fabric described as coated
    • The size list in the title and the size list in the bullets do not match

Best for: Sorting a pack into eight labelled parcels rather than protecting one thing properly.

  3. crazy4sailing C4S black ripstop dry bag with its roll-top closed

    crazy4sailing C4S coated ripstop dry bag, 5 litres, roll-top

A light roll-top in coated ripstop that states a floating claim conditional on being closed properly, and leaves the coating, the denier and the seams unnamed.

    Stated volume
5 litres for this listing — stated in the title, with the maker offering the range from 1.5 to 30 litres
    Fabric
Ripstop — stated as tear-resistant and coated, and described as durable at low weight
    Denier
    Not published on the listing
    Coating
Not published on the listing — the fabric is described as coated ripstop and the coating itself is never named
    Seam construction
    Not published on the listing
    Closure type
Roll-top — stated, described as sealing reliably, easy to handle, and as making the bag float when correctly closed; no number of turns is given
    Stated water rating
Not published on the listing — the maker claims the bag is 100 per cent waterproof, with no standard, no ingress rating and no water column figure
    Weight
Not published on the listing — described as ultralight and foldable, with no figure
    Purge valve
    Not published on the listing
    Amazon reference
B01DLFTVWI (same reference on 6 Amazon marketplaces)
    EAN
    4031396064099
    • Names the closure as a roll-top rather than describing only the buckle that holds it
    • Ties the floating claim to the condition it depends on — correctly closed — instead of stating it flat
    • Coated ripstop names half a fabric; the coating is what does the waterproofing and it is never said

Best for: A day on the water where the bag has to shut fast and stay on the surface if it goes over.

  4. deuter Light Drypack stuff sack rolled shut with its buckle clipped

deuter Light Drypack 15 stuff sack, 10,000 mm water column

The only bag on this shelf to publish both the number of rolls its closure needs and the situation it is not built for, and the only one that names a limit at all.

    Stated volume
15, from the model name Light Drypack 15 — the listing carries the figure in the name and does not restate it with a unit in the bullets
    Fabric
Not published on the listing — the material is described only by what it withstands, not by what it is
    Denier
    Not published on the listing
    Coating
    Not published on the listing
    Seam construction
    Not published on the listing
    Closure type
Roll closure with a buckle, rolled at least three times before the buckle is closed so the contents stay dry — stated, and the only roll count published on this shelf
    Stated water rating
10,000 mm water column — stated, described as protecting against dust and heavy rain, with an explicit caution that the pack is not suitable for situations where it is submerged
    Weight
    Not published on the listing
    Purge valve
    Not published on the listing
    Amazon reference
B0BP7JLZSC (same reference on 6 Amazon marketplaces)
    EAN
    4046051151786
    • Publishes the number of rolls the seal needs, which no other listing here does
    • States what it is not for — submersion — rather than leaving waterproof to cover everything
    • The fabric is never named, so a 10,000 mm figure sits on a cloth you cannot identify

Best for: Heavy rain and a dusty boot, with the honesty to say it is not a canoe bag.

  5. Tatonka blue Dry Sack rolled closed with its clip buckle

Tatonka Dry Sack 30 litres in recycled polyester, taped seams

One of only two bags on this shelf to say how its seams are treated, and the one that states its volume most plainly, with nothing published about the fabric weight or a rating.

    Stated volume
30 litres — stated twice in the title, as 30l and again as 30 Liter Volumen
    Fabric
Recycled polyester — stated, and described as high-quality and durable
    Denier
    Not published on the listing
    Coating
    Not published on the listing
    Seam construction
Taped — stated, and one of only two seam treatments published on this shelf
    Closure type
Roll closure with a clip buckle — stated; no number of turns is given
    Stated water rating
Not published on the listing — the maker calls the sack absolutely waterproof, with no standard, no ingress rating and no water column figure
    Weight
Not published on the listing — described as light and robust, with no figure
    Purge valve
    Not published on the listing
    Amazon reference
B09J5744V7 (same reference on 6 Amazon marketplaces)
    EAN
    4013236356151
    • Says how the seams are treated, which five of the seven bags here do not
    • States the volume unambiguously in litres, twice, rather than leaving it in a model name
    • No denier and no coating, so the fabric is named but not specified

Best for: Sorting a large load inside a rucksack or a car, where taped seams do more than a rating would.

  6. NORDKAMM ultralight ROBIC nylon dry bags in three sizes

NORDKAMM ROBIC nylon dry bags, 5, 10 and 15 litres, 10,000 mm

The fullest fabric sheet on this shelf — a named nylon, a water column, sealed seams and a weight for each of the three sizes — with the closure itself never described.

    Stated volume
5, 10 and 15 litres — stated as the three sizes offered
    Fabric
ROBIC performance nylon, stated as 100 per cent recycled nylon from a closed material loop; the maker cites an official Martindale test to an ISO standard and says the yarn is six times stronger than standard polyester and three times stronger than standard nylon
    Denier
    Not published on the listing
    Coating
    Not published on the listing
    Seam construction
Sealed — stated, alongside the water column figure
    Closure type
Not published on the listing — the maker specifies the buckles by brand and describes their rubber compound and behaviour in extreme temperatures, and never says how the top is folded before they clip
    Stated water rating
10,000 mm water column — stated
    Weight
    36 g at 5 litres, 50 g at 10 litres and 57 g at 15 litres — stated, size by size
    Purge valve
    Not published on the listing
    Amazon reference
B08CY2W22K (same reference on 4 Amazon marketplaces)
    EAN
    4260513031304
    • A weight for every size offered, which no other listing on this shelf provides
    • A named fabric, a water column and a seam treatment together on one sheet
    • The closure itself is never named, so the roll count that makes the seal is unknown

Best for: A pack counted in grams, where three sizes with three published weights can be chosen properly.

  7. Mil-Tec Seals waterproof roll-top rucksack with padded shoulder straps and MOLLE webbing

Mil-Tec Seals Dry Bag rucksack, 35 litres, 250D PVC and polyester

This is a waterproof rucksack rather than a stuff sack — padded shoulder straps, a chest strap, a ventilated back and MOLLE webbing — and rucksacks are outside what this site covers.

    Stated volume
Around 35 litres — stated in the title and repeated as roughly 35 litres in the bullets
    Fabric
PVC and polyester — stated as hard-wearing and abrasion resistant
    Denier
    250D — stated
    Coating
Not published on the listing — the material is described as coated without the coating being named, with PVC and polyester given as the material itself
    Seam construction
    Not published on the listing
    Closure type
Roll-top — stated in the title and in the bullets, with no number of turns given
    Stated water rating
Not published on the listing — the maker states it protects kit in wet conditions or brief submersion and calls the bag floating, with no standard and no figure
    Weight
    Approximately 1,180 g — stated, alongside dimensions of about 57 × 29 × 20 cm
    Purge valve
Not published on the listing — side compression straps are described for securing the contents, which is not the same thing
    Amazon reference
B083WRWZ81 (same reference on 6 Amazon marketplaces)
    EAN
    4046872398025
    • Publishes a weight and a set of dimensions together, which no other listing on this shelf does
    • Publishes a denier, one of only two bags here to do so
    • It is a rucksack, not a stuff sack, and this site does not cover what is worn on the back

Best for: Reading as a comparison point, since the carrying system puts it outside this site’s scope.
