What these pages are, and what pays for them
TrailVerdict is an independent editorial site about the equipment you sleep, cook and sit with away from a building — what is carried on foot on a trek, and what is driven to a pitch and set up there — trekking tents, sleeping bags, sleeping mats, bivy bags, hammocks and tarps, camping stoves and camp cookware, outdoor water filters, hydration bladders, insulated flasks and cool boxes, trekking poles, headlamps, lanterns and portable solar panels, camping chairs, camp tables, camping showers and camping toilets — and the pegs, footprints, poles, repair kits, liners, nets, gas canisters, windshields, filter cartridges, bottles, cutlery, dry bags, storage boxes, clotheslines, paracord, compasses, emergency blankets and whistles that go with them. It does not cover rucksacks, power banks or travel pillows, which are covered elsewhere, nor technical mountaineering and climbing equipment, on which a life depends; nor first aid and anything medical; nor clothing, whose sizing and returns are another trade; nor motorhomes and caravans; nor hunting. Weights, packed and deployed dimensions, capacities, hydrostatic heads, R-values, temperature ratings, micron ratings, flow rates, lumens, runtimes and stated load figures published by manufacturers are reported as such, with their unit written as published, with their source named, and never derived by us. In particular, a weight is reported as the maker labels it, since packed weight and trail weight are not the same figure, and it is never converted from one to the other. Nothing here replaces a manufacturer's own instructions, nor the rules of the site or the country you are in, which govern in particular where a stove may be lit, where a tent may be pitched and what may be poured away or emptied — and two statements are repeated on every page that touches them: a sleeping bag's comfort and limit ratings are laboratory values obtained under EN 13537 or ISO 23537 where the maker names that standard, an indication and not a promise about any particular night, and this site gives no advice on cold injury or hypothermia. A water filter is described by the micron rating, flow rate and cartridge life its manufacturer declares, and is never presented here as making water safe to drink: potability is a matter for the manufacturer's instructions and for the local authorities where you fill.
