It is a high-strength aluminium used for tent poles precisely because it takes a bend and springs back. Naming the grade rather than saying aluminium is a specific claim about the part that fails first in wind, and it is the kind of detail that can be checked against a spare.
Freestanding means it holds its shape unpegged, not that it stays where you left it. The guylines and pegs are what stop it moving in wind and what tension the fly away from the inner to keep condensation off you.
