The bottom line The only mat here you can choose on warmth rather than on thickness, and the heaviest and bulkiest of the nine because of it. For cold ground it is the obvious answer; for a light pack it is not.

It is a measure of resistance to heat flow, and 4.8 is the sort of figure normally described as a four-season mat. R-values add up, so a foam mat underneath adds its own. Without a named standard, treat 4.8 as the maker's figure rather than as directly comparable with an ASTM F3340 result.
