Camping hammocks

NatureFun Ultralight travel hammock vs Zouway camping hammock

Which of these two publishes the weight you actually end up carrying?

By

Two nylon gathered-end hammocks within five centimeters of each other, both supplied with straps and carabiners. The difference is in what the figures cover: the NatureFun states that its 580 g (20.5 oz) includes the straps and the carabiners and attributes its load figure to a named testing body, while the Zouway gives 600 g (21.2 oz) without saying what is in it, and longer straps with more loops.

Each tick belongs to its own line and nothing more. The row of ticks is not a score: the two verdicts underneath settle the page, because these two answer different questions on the trail.

Which of the two, for which walk

Buy the NatureFun Ultralight travel hammock

The NatureFun is the better-documented buy: 580 g (20.5 oz) stated to include the hardware, an 18 × 13 cm (7.1 × 5.1 in) pack, a 300 kg (661.4 lb) load figure the maker attributes to TÜV, and a stated span of six meters between anchors. That last figure is the one that decides whether a given pair of trees works, and it is rare on this shelf.

Zouway camping hammock

No amazon.com listing was found for this one. We hold references for other markets but none for the United States, so it may not be buyable here — which is the first thing to weigh against anything below.

The Zouway is the longer lie at 280 cm (110.2 in) and the more adjustable hang, with 2.5 m (8 ft) straps carrying 5 + 1 loops against 2 m (7 ft) plain straps. Its 200 kg (440.9 lb) is the lower published load and its 600 g (21.2 oz) never says what it counts, so the number on the listing and the number in your pack may not be the same one.

What people ask before buying

What does a stated load figure describe?

It describes the hammock and its webbing, as declared by the maker. It says nothing about the branch, the tree or whatever else the straps are wrapped around, which is the part of the system nobody publishes a figure for.

Why does strap length change what you can hang from?

The strap has to reach around the anchor and still leave enough length to set the hang angle. Longer straps with more loops widen the range of trunks you can use and let you fine-tune the sag without knots, which is why both figures are worth reading.
